MINUTES OF GPLNE MEETING HELD ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2005 AT THE EPA NEW ENGLAND LIBRARY IN BOSTON

John Fobert, GPLNE Chair, called the meeting to order and introduced our host, Peg Nelson who has been at the EPA, Region I, Library for over 20 years. Peg explained her position is a contract position. She is not an employee of EPA.
Peg presented a “slide show” with a handout for each of us of the slides we saw. She emphasized the information treasures available on the EPA website; the free publications; the lending library of over 300 videos, the acronym page; the cataloging of EPA docs (including those of NTIS); ENVIROFACTS; ECHO and the kids page for energy information….among others.
The Region I office is open to the public Mondays through Thursdays from 10 –3.
We then visited the SUPERFUND RECORD CENTER READING ROOM.
As of 9/30/05…$299.14 in savings
$1030 in a CD which will “expire” on 1/8/06.
ALL THE POSITIONS WERE APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY.
Speak, at Brown, on GIS. Tom is the Social Sciences Data Librarian.
It was suggested that the May meeting be held at Readex Headquarters in Vermont. John will contact Jim Walsh.
8. There was discussion about GPLNE and an affiliation with another group. John was asked to contact Betty Febo to “settle” this issue at the December meeting with the proviso that the members would receive information prior to the meeting.
